http://www.sustainablefingerlakes.org/map/listing/finger-lakes-meat-projectThe Finger Lakes Meat Project is an initiative by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins and Steuben Counties to grow the freezer trade (sales of meat in bulk quantities such as whole, half and quarter animals) to benefit regional livestock farmers and consumers. It provides educational outreach, a region-wide online directory of farms, and community freezer storage locations in Ithaca and Corning, called Meat Lockers. The Ithaca Meat Locker is a community freezer space for storing bulk purchases of locally-raised meat. Though many people are interested in buying meat locally and in bulk, many lack adequate freezer space at home. As a solution to this barrier, they posed the idea of a Meat Locker, just like ones that were frequently used in the 50's and 60's.

Every day, volunteers deliver these perishable items directly to local pantries and other community food programs. Our goal is to produce a wholesome product with exceptional taste and tenderness at a fair price.

http://www.sustainablefingerlakes.org/map/listing/windsong-farmWe graze our animals in the uncrowded pastures of our 175 acre farm during the warm months of the year and then offer them hay and bed them on straw, both of which we harvest here on the farm, during our snowy winters. Our animals receive no hormones and no antibiotics in their feed. We aim to produce the highest quality of grass-fed and grass-finished beef and lamb. Our dual-purpose sheep are known for their lustrous longwool fleece which is prized by handspinners. We also produce pastured poultry, maple syrup and fruit jams and jellies.

http://www.sustainablefingerlakes.org/map/listing/wine-trails-of-the-finger-lakesThe Finger Lakes is a world-class wine producing region that specializes in aromatic white varieties like Riesling and Gewurztraminer. And of late, the region is also finding exciting success with cool-climate reds like Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir. The terroir of the Finger Lakes is special because of the microclimates created by the lakes -- extreme cold weather in the winter is avoided and warm breezy days during the summer help ripen the grapes. Limestone-laced soils give Finger Lakes wines a distinctive taste.
