Handwork, Ithaca’s Artisan Cooperative (formerly Cooperative Craft Store) was started in 1976 by 12 local craftspeople. Working together they could afford the cost and time of opening a retail shop to sell their work. A true cooperative, Handwork is owned and staffed by it's members. They also carry work by craftspeople from across the country and continue to strengthen the focus on crafts made in New York and surrounding states. They now have 45 member artisans doing a range of work that includes pottery, woodworking, glass, jewelry, fiber arts, wearable arts, leather, dried florals, paper, fine art and photography. They donate 5% of net profit each year to community medical and food programs, as well as art education.
